  1. The NACE codes considered are based on a manual selection guided by Eurostat (2008). The number of patents relates to granted USPTO patents from Canada, China, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Switzerland, the UK, and the USA granted between 1990 and 2015. Patents are assigned to industries based on the probabilistic matching described in De Rassenfosse et al. (2014). In doing so, each patent has been assigned to the industry with the highest matching probability. In addition, a patent is assigned to a Singh et al. (2021) technology based on its three-digit UPC and four-digit IPC code. If a patent belongs to more than one UPC-IPC code, it is assigned to each of it. The total number of distinguished patent-UPC-IPC combinations is shown in the last column
